Although we work hard to increase brain injury awareness all year long, especially during the month of March (Brain Injury Awareness Month), today is a special day as it is Congressional Brain Injury Awareness Day. Today, legislators will participate in an awareness fair, briefing and reception in Washington, D.C.
Today is the day to get your voice heard! Every 18.5 seconds someone in the U.S. has a brain injury. These people – millions each year – and their families need brain injury services and support. First, find out who your state representative is by clicking here. Then, reach out to him or her. Send an e-mail or call him or her and share your story! Use the script provided when you contact your representative to help advocate for brain injury services.
And don’t forget about the power of social media! ‘Like’ your representative on Facebook and follow him or her on Twitter. Share our posts on your Facebook wall and re-tweet our tweets! All month long we’ll be sharing brain injury survivors’, family members’ and caregivers’ stories about how brain injury has affected their lives. These stories are powerful and help us put faces and stories to the brain injury statistics which are so commonly used.
Do you have a story to share? Share it with us here. What are you doing to make your voice heard?
